“The finest country-punk-folk-bluegrass banjo player in the country.” --HUFFINGTON POST
• Chicago’s favorite alt-country punk rock banjo player!
• Al tore up Texas with a number of SXSW appearances that garnered at least two mentions from NPR music. “..my sentimental favorite had to be Al Scorch, a rumpled Chicagoan whose old-time banjo jams were cut with humor and everyman charm. —Stephen Thompson.
• First track recently premiered at Pop Matters. http://www.popmatters.com/post/al-scorch-everybody-out-audio-premiere-new-album/
• Al will be on tour all summer.
Al Scorch grew up in Chicago, with its storied history of corrupt power at the top and righteous fighters and big dreamers at the bottom. From the town that gave the world characters like Studs Terkel, Upton Sinclair, and the anarchists in Bughouse Square, Scorch adds his voice to the choir with the enthusiasm and charisma of a Maxwell Street preacher. With a stentorian bullhorn of a voice, he exhorts not with a holy book in his hand, but a banjo and guitar. He’s a messenger with a conduit, a believer that a soul-stirring song will march you forward.
Balanced on wedges of punk, old-time string band, American and European folk, and soulful balladry, Al is an entertainer, road warrior, storyteller, and one helluva musician. His Bloodshot debut is on a sonic framework sharing an intersection with the Bad Livers’ lawless next-gen take on traditional country & bluegrass, and Black Flag’s burn-it-all-down revolt and breakneck tempos. Like a punk rock banjo-wielding John Prine or Billy Bragg, Al Scorch writes for the every person.
Pick up the new album by banjo burner Al Scorch now at the DE! LP ($18.99) and CD ($10.99) Also be sure to check out his upcoming gig at the Jig and Reel on June 18th.

Bands performing schedule:
• 12 PM - EmiSunshine - T-shirts and CDS available now at the store.
It’s impossible to explain the exceptional talents of EmiSunshine, an 11-year-old East Tennessee prodigy who has captured the nation’s attention as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Steeped in Appalachian music, she is a true vocal stylist, one who instinctively knows how to interpret the nuances of a song with her impressive range, even though she has yet to gain the life experience and empathy seemingly necessary to fully comprehend the words she sings. Despite a given name that reflects optimism, she is drawn to darker themes of pain, anguish and even murder, like that of The Louvin Brothers, whom she loves.
• 1 PM - Appalachian Surf TeamMembers: Guitar / Sean Sparbanie- Guitar / Drew Fulton- Bass / Rodney Sheehan- Drums / Austin PolleyGenre: Surf-RockHometown: Knoxville, TN
• 2 PM - Roomsounds
There’s a reason legions of young rock fans fall in love with their parents’ records. It’s the same reason so many radio stations still play classic rock: Great music never gets old. And it’s what prompted singer and guitarist Ryan Michael to reinvent his sound, leaving behind his teenage past in a Warped Tour band signed to a Warner Bros. subsidiary and relocating from Connecticut to Texas.
“We wanted to immerse ourselves in the South,” explains Michael. “To be around the best blues and country players. It all just seemed so much more authentic than the shit going on around me.”
The entire band embraced those influences — Beatles, Stones, Petty, Big Star, Faces and Oasis to new a few. Along with guitarist/vocalist Sam Janik, bassist/vocalist Red Coker and drummer Dan Malone, The Roomsounds make their own sound, initially from a run down industrial space with no heating, cooling or plumbing. They’re now living in a proper house in East Dallas, but not much else has changed. There’s always someone over– beautiful women, musicians and what the band calls ‘permanent guests,” all decked out with long hair and bell-bottoms. They’ve created their own Exile in Dallas and the music shows it.
• 3 PM - Mountains Like Wax
Murfreesboro, TN based band Mountains Like Wax is satisfying hungry fans one show at a time with their relentlessly poignant and exuberant Southern post-rock. Having played over fifty plus shows in the past year and counting without a sound recording, they are proving to be a band to watch as they charge to the forefront of Middle Tennessee’s burgeoning indie rock scene. Mitchell Taylor (vocals, guitar), Samuel Katz (guitar), and Preston Vaughn (drums) are now ready to commit their sound to tape and make a rallying cry for their generation as they wrap arms around those begging to know will the future render glory, will it be pliable, or will it melt and fade?
